In our first year of dating, we began a journal of our adventures. In it we raved of our love for each other, the first time meeting friends and family, nights spent at the bar, and everything in between. When we met, we had both been writing separate, non-committal blogs on livejournal. Two months into the relationship, we began our journal. We kept the journal online, password protected so that no one else could accidentally stumble upon our private posts.
We have never told anyone about our journal, not even today. Well, not until now. We spent the first few weeks recollecting the first months of our relationship in as much detail as we could muster out of our lovestruck brains. We were total romantics to the core, and the idea of having a keepsake of our first year was pure gold. We often wrote our entries together, staying up late into the night after a long weekend, narrating to one another the previous days in every attempt to capture the moments before they were lost.
It was always so fun to see the different ways in which we experienced the same moments.

The writer describes graphically how a map of the world showing Iceland, Greenland and Vinland bound in a Yale Library copy of The Tartar Relation, an account of Carpini’s mission to the Mongols in —7, became re-united with a copy of the Speculum Historiale in which it was originally bound in the 15th century. Both medieval manuscripts were composed of intermixed leaves of parchment and paper, but whereas the Speculum had survived in its original binding, The Tartar Relation had been re-bound at a later date.
Careful analysis of the paleography of the Vincent manuscript Speculum Historiale indicated that it was written by a scribe between and c. Examination of the parchment proved of no help in dating the manuscript, neither did the ink. The remains of the original binding showed that it could be dated about at the latest. However, the paper provided a positive clue, and analysis indicated that it was probably made about at a mill near Basle by Heinrich Halbisen.

Dating, especially during the teenage years, is thought to be an important way for young people to build self-identity, develop social skills, learn about other people, and grow emotionally. Yet new research from the University of Georgia has found that not dating can be an equally beneficial choice for teens. And in some ways, these teens fared even better. The study, published online in The Journal of School Health , found that adolescents who were not in romantic relationships during middle and high school had good social skills and low depression, and fared better or equal to peers who dated.

This article offers a critical methodological reflection on how we undertook covert digital ethnographic research on Spanish young people and their use of online dating apps with a focus on the potential risk attached to using them. We were interested in showing how we approached the fieldwork, how we developed different research identities and how those identities were able to draw out raw data which reflected the risk attached to the online dating apps.
While the project as a whole used a mixed-methods framework which also encompassed open-ended interviews and surveys, we provide a series of critical reflections attuned to digital ethnography.
